Papesch is an architectural and interior design practice established in 2004, working from studios on the South Coast and in Sydney.

We are a close-knit team of architects, designers and associated professionals, bringing together different perspectives, experience and strengths. We work collaboratively — with each other, with our clients and with the wider project team — and value the relationships that develop through that process.

Our architecture begins with listening — to our clients, to community, and to the particular qualities of a place. We are interested in what a site already holds: its landscape, weather, history, culture, patterns of occupation and the traces of what has come before.

We think about architecture through experience as much as form — through atmosphere, light, movement, texture, shelter and connection to the natural world.

Over time, good buildings gather layers. Memories, rituals, festivities, adversity, change and the small events of everyday life leave their marks. We see this patina not as something to design out, but as something architecture should make room for.

Our work spans residential, community, health, cultural, education and workplace projects, but the approach remains consistent: listen carefully, understand deeply, and make something particular to the people and place it belongs to.

And we believe there is room for beauty simply because it brings joy.
